The beauty and rugged land of Shetland shines through in the author's account of a year alone in the remote lighthouse of Eshaness. Her accounts of battling the storms, the Rayburn stove, and the frustration of being so far away from her home in the U.S. during times of sadness, all are tempered with humor in the daily happenings with stories of seeing whales at sea and raising caddies and wild rabbits and hedgehogs. Reading about the laundry being blown away, and other humorous tales shows the spunk and courage it took to make it through a year alone. A wonderful read, I could not put it down. I
