Moder Parable October 5, 2007 If you are tired of the standard leadership books, try this short leadership fable. It's a story of a burned-out executive whose wife sends him to a week-long spiritual retreat at a monastery under threat of divorce if he doesn't go. The lessons he learns on servanthood, authority, and genuine love will stick with you.
Good points, not great presentation May 6, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whilst the true essence of leadership is captured well within this book, to my mind it is overshadowed by the overly colloquial writing that detracts from the content. The points made give cause for thought, however they are one man's point of view. By all means take what you can from what is provided, but read with a critical eye.
A summary of everything great from great leaders. August 17, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A story which systematically reveals an alternative to the 'survival of the fittest' syndrome which is so prevalent in society. Hunter offers the lead by showing the way to leadership with integrity. This must be read again and again for the wisdom to take root and produce fruit. But be ready to do some continual pruning. A book which has a wide accesibility: from the Stephen Covey guru to the person who is fed up with being dumped on.
A Must Read for those in Leadership Roles July 9, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
James Hunter wrote an exquisite book. The key to servant leadership is no secret. One only needs to look at the most important servant leader in our time -- Jesus Christ. The book, however, expands on how Christ's leadership style can and should be used in the world today. A very readable book.
A must-read for all those in a leadership role...or not June 28, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Servant is great reading for anyone who deals with people, in or out of the workplace. Our company is purchasing them and passing them out as gifts to our leadership, as well as our sales professionals. Thank you for this insightful, quick read!
